The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles by vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger. They were considered a controversial band, due mostly to Morrison's cryptic lyrics and unpredictable stage persona. The band dissolved in March 1973[1], short of two years after Morrison's death in July 1971. According to the RIAA, they have sold over 32 million albums in the US alone.[2]
The Doors, along with the Grateful Dead and Joan Baez, received a lifetime achievement award at the 2007 Grammy Awards.

On February 28, 2007, The Doors received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked The Doors[12] #41 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[13]
In 2000 The Doors are ranked #32 on VH1's 100 Greatest Hard Rock Artists
The Doors' "Light My Fire" is ranked #7 on VH1 Greatest Rock Songs, in 2000
The Doors received a Gold Record Award in the late 1960s for the hit "Light My Fire"
The Doors ranked #37 on Blender Magazine's Top 50 Worst Artists in Music History in 2003.[14]
